Lab Grown Gemstones
Lab Grown Gemstones
Roselle Jewelry’s lab created gemstones are grown using the most scientifically advanced processes - creating beautiful, precision-cut lab-created gemstones in a wide variety of colors and shapes. These laboratory techniques produce REAL rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and alexandrites, with identical physical, optical and chemical make-up to their natural gemstone equivalent.
Under laboratory conditions, temperatures are controlled and foreign materials found in the earth are eliminated from a starting ‘seed’, making the crystal growth more predictable, which in turn consistently produces the best qualities and colors - even better than those found in nature.
Roselle Jewelry’s lab grown gemstones are conflict-free, superior to any alternative you’ll find on the market, and priced at only HK$688.00 per carat - approximately 0.5% the cost of a mined counterpart.
Growing Lab Created Gemstones
Roselle Jewelry offers the most technologically advanced lab-grown gemstones from Chatham. Chatham creates their high-quality gemstones using a single growing method called Flux Fusion. During the growing period (six months to a year) the chamber’s temperature and chemistry are carefully controlled to duplicate the environment in the area of the earth where that gemstone variety forms. Over time the crystal begins to grow on the ‘seed’ in its natural crystal shape. Once this process is finished, the outcome is an identical crystal rough to one found in nature, resulting in the highest quality lab-created gemstones available.
FLUX FUSION VS. FLAME FUSION
The Flux Fusion process provides many advantages, the most important being an identical internal structure that gives each gemstone optimal brilliance and light return. Only an expert gemologists can distinguish a Flux Fusion grown lab-created gemstone from an earth-mined counterpart.
The less advanced, alternative growing process of Flame Fusion uses a melting method to achieve a stone that carries the same look as a ruby and/or sapphire. It is the most commonly used method due to the low investment (approximately 1 cent per carat) and the quick turnaround (approximately 1 hour), however the lack of internal crystal structure means it will not carry the same brilliance as a natural ruby or sapphire, and will return a negative result when tested.
Lab-Grown Gemstone Cuts
When it comes to cutting gemstones Chatham uses strict standards for proportions, faceting and polish that ensures that all of their gemstones have maximum brilliance, high clarity, and vivid color. To meet these standards, 80% of the rough crystal is lost. Saving extra weight is never a consideration, ensuring you receive the most beautiful and highest quality lab-grown gemstones available.
Lab-Created Gemstone Types
RUBIES & SAPPHIRES
Ruby and Sapphire gemstones are both formed from the mineral Corundum. Red Corundum is referred to as Ruby, pink-orange is called Padparadscha and all other colors are just called Sapphires. These gemstones are among the hardest and most durable variety, ideal for all types of jewelry.
Sapphires
Sapphires are associated with blessings, divine knowledge, sincerity, and faithfulness. Sapphire is the birthstone for September and the gem of the 5th and 45th anniversaries.
While all colors of sapphire are beautiful the most popular color, especially for engagement rings are blue sapphires. Blue sapphire is the most difficult gem crystal to grow. Color in sapphire often follows the crystal structure in color zones. Even the best sapphire crystal has different shades of blue in it. That’s why lab-created blue sapphires come in three lovely shades of blue, not just one. The price difference between the finest lab-grown and mined sapphire of the same size and quality can be as much as $10,000 per carat!
Rubies
Rubies are associated with intense passion, good luck, protection from misfortune, and personal inspiration. Ruby is the birthstone for July and the gem for the 15th and 40th anniversaries.
Fine rubies glow like coals, with red fluorescence making them particularly vivid in sunlight. Rubies are very rare: it’s almost impossible to mine flawless rubies and many mined rubies are enhanced with heat and fracture filling to improve their appearance. Natural rubies can command the highest per-carat price of any colored stone. This makes the ruby one of the most important gems in the colored stone market.

EMERALDS
As the gem of spring, emerald is the perfect choice as the birthstone for the month of May. It’s also the gem of the 20th and 35th wedding anniversaries.
Emeralds are fascinating gemstones made from a mineral called Beryl. They have the most beautiful and most intense radiant green color. It takes about a year from start to finish to grow an emerald crystal: the crystals grow for about nine months. The controlled environment is rich in chromium to give the crystals a rich green hue, and allows them to grow larger and cleaner than the emeralds grown in nature. Emeralds are at least twenty times more rare than diamonds, and in the finest grades they can sell for approximately the same per-carat price as earth-mined diamonds. Our lab-created emeralds are identical to the finest grade earth-mined emerald but are 1% the cost at only HK$988.00 per carat.
